Nepal eliminate Laos 3-0, reach final
Kathmandu- Nepal made it to the finals of the AFC solidarity Cup football championship, edging Laos 3-0 in a match played today at the Negeri Stadium in Kuching, Malaysia. The match was decided through penalty shoot-out.
Goalkeeper Kiran Kumar Limbu helped Nepal secure a win by saving two penalty kicks from the opponent Laos players.
Before ending up in a tiebreaker, the two teams played a 2-2 draw in the stipulated 90 minutes and extra time.
Laos started on a high spirit, scoring an opening goal in the 18th minute of the first half. However, Nepal equalised when Bimal Gharti Magar scored a head goal in the 47th minute of the second half. Magar made use of a pass from Bharat Khawas to turn it into a score.
Likewise, Ananta Tamang from the Nepali team had cheered up entire Nepali audiences and football supporters by registering a second head goal in the 104th minute in extra time, leading the game 2-1.
However, Nepal’s hope was shattered shortly when Laos scored a goal just three minutes before whistle, ending the match at a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, Macau will take on Brunei on Tuesday in the semi-final. Nepal will play against the winner for the winner title. RSS
