Hearing on suspended CIAA Chief’s appointment begins
Kathmandu- The Supreme Court has begun hearing on a case filed against the appointment of Lokman Singh Karki as the Chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
Justices Ishwori Prasad Khatiwada, Dr Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha began the hearing on Thursday.
On behalf of writ petitioner Om Prakash Aryal, advocates Ramesh Badal, Dr Surendra Bhandari, Tikaram Bhattarai, Govind Bandi, Dr Chandra Kant Gyawali, Shambu Thapa, Rabi Khanal, Sunil Pokhrel and Bijay Mishra pleaded against Karki’s appointment as CIAA Chief.
The hearing would continue from 11:00 am tomorrow.
Advocate Aryal had filed writ petition against Karki arguing that his appointment as CIAA Chief was illegal. The writ once scrapped was decided again for review by the court.
Advocates Bhimarjun Acharya, Madhav Basnet, Kumar Regmi, Sushil Pant, Krishna Sapkot and Anand Raj Lamsal had applied for the postponement of today’s (Thursday) hearing citing the 60th Day of Nepal Bar Association. However, the hearing was not postponed.
Earlier, the hearing was postponed after advocate Balkrishna Neupane, pleading for Karki, was sick. Joint Attorney General Kiran Poudel had pleaded for Karki. On Friday, hearing would be conducted for defendants.
Karki smeared soot
Meanwhile, two persons smeared soot on Karki’s face when he had reached the Supreme Court to receive the next date of the hearing.
However, the police persons took them under control immediately. The youths smeared soot chanted slogans as ‘Maoist party hi hi, corrupt people down down.’ RSS
